Frozen Toe 1
The first race of the CYC 2016 frozen toe series had a great turn out of 38 boats. In the late afternoon the bright sunshine made a great contrast to the chilly temperature after so many weeks of above average temperatures. The wind had been forecast to be fruity, but in the end was a moderate 10-15 knots from the North North West. The race officer Pete Harrison set a course that was described as a W shape, which provided two beats and two runs per lap with a nice reach to finish.
The fast fleet was a battle between the Merlins and the RS400’s, with the Shoreham SC Merlins taking 1,2 and 3 at the final result.
In the Medium fleet the first four boats exchanged places around the course with CYC’s Ian Barnett (Solo), Ian Payne and Charlie Porter ( Laser) leading Felpham SC’s Guy Mayger in the early stages, however, Guy managed to overhaul them all and win the race by over 20 seconds in the end.
The Slow fleet started with the Medium and followed the same course, but were finished after two laps. At the end the Winner was Jo Andrews from Felpham SC.
The Next Frozen Toe is on Sunday the 13th November, with an early start time of 09:30 (briefing at 08:30).
