Winter Lecture RNLI Safety at Sea

A full house came to the last talk of the season, to hear from Brian Masters (RNLI Education Presenter and Community Safety Advisor) on the subject of Safety at Sea.

He brought with him an impressive collection of equipment, spanning the wider range of options available on the market and provided an overview of each with possible pros and cons. In many respects your correspondent found this a sobering experience, as despite carrying a good deal of equipment on her own boat, she observes her skipper rarely wears or has any of it to hand.

After lunch, a subsequent practical session was available, with Brian’s assistants – Ted Munro (Community Safety Officer at Hayling Island Station) and Richard Hills (Community Safety Volunteer). Here members could have their life jackets checked, discuss the equipment choices in more depth, and even take part in a VHF mayday simulation exercise.
