Cruise Report: West Solent Cruise to Lymington
After a bit of uncertainty about the weather and unreliable forecasts, 12 boats joined the list to head for Lymington on the 16th May as planned.
Tuesday was a perfect day with northerly breezes and everyone had a wonderful sail down from their various starting points. On arrival we were rafted against the Dan Bran pontoon and set about having some lunch.
1800 hrs quickly came for the obligatory drinks party on the pontoon with delicious nibbles provided by Gina, Judy and Chris on Aspen. Everyone made their own arrangements for dinner.
Wednesday dawned with the sun again and 14 walkers led by John and Jane Gosnell and five cyclists supposedly led by Tim Walker made their way to the Gun Inn at Keyhaven for lunch and refreshment.
In the evening we met for pre-dinner drinks on the balcony of Royal Lymington Yacht Club and watched the dinghy racing play chicken with the IOW ferry. Drinks were followed by a sit down meal in a private room in the clubhouse. After the meal the results of the quiz about historic ships and their captains were read out generating much debate. Nevertheless a little useless knowledge was gained by some.
Thursday saw an early start for those going east, the others with plans to go west started later.
Thanks to all who joined us on what turned out to be a very pleasant cruise, including our experiment with damaged crew!
Thanks to all those taking part: Legato, Aquadisiac, Quintette, Blaze Away, Kerenza, Aspen, Seabird, Arcadia, First Light, Avalon and Ursa Minor. It wouldn’t have been the same without you all.
